How We Chose These Products

To build this list of the best SSDs for PS5 2026, we prioritized drives that align with Sony’s PS5 expansion requirements: PCIe Gen 4 M.2 format, included heatsinks, and published speeds that are comfortably above the console’s minimum needs. We also weighed official PS5 compatibility claims, especially for the WD_BLACK SN850P models, since those are explicitly positioned for PlayStation use.

We then compared storage capacity, price, Prime availability, and owner feedback patterns. In practice, that means we favored drives that look easy to install, offer enough capacity for modern game libraries, and have enough published evidence to inspire confidence for long-term use.

What mattered most

• PS5 compatibility and heatsink design
• Sequential read speed ratings
• Storage capacity for real-world game libraries
• Price relative to performance and capacity
• Published review trends and buyer sentiment
